There seems to be a way to create a true masking png file
in Photoshop 7.x.
I'm still experimenting.

I haven't used Gimp but I use PS as a pro and I don't see how Gimp
would be any better suited to masking and transparency work than PS
is. PS has a thousand different ways of doing masks - I'm not sure
what you're referring to "Photoshop doesnt have much in the way
of masking..." That's just not true.

Yeah well I've been using photoshop for about 3 years and I've never seen anything like what Gimp does with PNG files...No documentation on alpha 0 for photoshop...nor does anyone know how to access the alpha 0 channel in adobe...but if you find it..that would be cool...
Gimp seems to be easier when it comes to this procedure...so I would recommend using it over photoshop for making reflective PNGs...
