Feature: populated universe.

Hi,

I don't know if somebody came out already with this idea (I did a quick search on the forum but I couldn't find anything about that).
How about adding a client functionality to Celestia that allows any user who joins a server on the network, to notify his position in the universe and download the realtime position of all the users logged on the server.
Then, Celestia can render the other users like spaceships moving around...

Just like a multiplayer game.

Bye,
Straf.

Hi Strafikkio

In my feature request website there is a reference about multiplayer.

I've introduced this argument in the tread: http://ennui.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2752

I hope that sooner or later it will become reality.

Bye - Paolo

I would love to see a game based on the celestia engine, mabey like aceofangels.com or escape velocity

Spaceflight

Has there been any hint of using Celestia as the basis for a space flight simulation? Even if it was relatively simplistic, with just a few resources to manage, it could be incredibly immersive.

Celestia itself is intended as the ideal 3D astronomical display system. We'd rather not distract its primary developers from that goal.

Although it's not open source, the freeware program Orbiter provides a highly accurate spaceflight experience. See http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html

Also, there's at least one project to create a gaming environment from Celestia. See http://mostlyharmless.sourceforge.net/ by Marc Griffith.
