I took that semi-map of Triton and created this temp map. I'm
sure it doesn't look much like this.

Where did you get this or did you make it? Its an improvement over the origional to say the least...

btw, if you like I can conjure up a bump map for it...

I derived it from that jpg someone put up the other day.

Any way I can help the process. I hope Chris adds it to the medres
folder. If there's any graphic you want me to fix or embellish on,
please put it up on this forum. I wish I could see the results of
bump maps - my Viper770 doesn't do it.

Did you ever get the 12 asteroids I made? (I made them because
.cms files crash Celestia every time on my cpu)

By the way, as I said before, I'm not sure what the copyright/credit issues would be if we redistributed something derived from that image-- it probably said somewhere on that site, but I didn't find it with a cursory inspection...

I did mess around with it a little myself and determine that it did indeed look pretty cool as a Celestia texture.

There seem to be many publicly distributed images from NASA and other agencies for which it's OK to re-use them for non-commercial purposes, but the original investigators want some sort of acknowledgement, which we could put in the readme.

It was derived from this:

http://www.star.ucl.ac.uk/~apod/solarsy ... rimap1.htm

Based on 1989 Voyager images.

Oh, and I found his copyright page:

http://www.star.ucl.ac.uk/~apod/solarsy ... yright.htm

But in this particular case the guy maintaining the site is not the author.

I hate to tell you this, but it looks like that moon bump map is inverted.
If you look at which direction the sun is, the craters are mounds instead
of craters. I think.

I know...Its not mine...Its Celestia's...but it still looks better with the dds file...that much is for certain...

I will do a better moon bump someday I think...
