Named Locations.
I see in pre-release 1.3.1 - 7 there is a feature under Render called 'Location' which looks like it is going to hook up to a database of Named features like Cities, craters, etc. Is there a specification for how this will work so we can start preparing databases for our favorite planets?

Here are some sample location files compiled by Grant, myself, and a perl script from USGS databases:

Just drop them into your extras folder . . .

Don's compiled a nice summary of how locations work:

Something Similar
We are doing something similar in our WorldWind product, but using XML
We have the USGS moon/mars and will be making that available soon.
We used the CIA database for the earth locations.
Thanks for the info - we may get an earth done soon.

The CIA world database that is available on the net seems to have anything but cities/towns/villages with their long/lat coordinates.
Is your list public?

The 'cities' type seems to work - but nothing else.
What are the Official varaible names. "maria, Terrea, etc." don't work,
