Hello everyone,
I 've a model of a Saturn rocket.I downloaded it from here a while back, there are lots of free models(I've just downloaded a Zeppelin !), this is a copy of the license ( This 3D model Copyright 2000 Amazing 3D Graphics, Inc.

I would be glad of some help setting it up. It appears in Celestia but not as it should. My difficulty is with the textures, it came with 7 tga files which I can't get to open in Anim8tor but opened in Canon Photostudio 5 .When I opened them in Canon Photostudio 5 and converted them to bmp and jpeg, these both then worked in Anim8tor, but not Celestia. Now guessing a bit, I thought Celestia likes files of 1:1 and 1:2 aspects ( feeble arent I ) so more slight size editing, to no difference ( except I think the positioning is slightly cocked up now,) I've used Jack's ssc for the ksc Atlantis launch, and edited the ssc to refer to the model, I transplanted the orientation for the marspathfinder and adjusted it a bit more [28.18809 1 0 0] it appears fairly vertical ( enough for me anyway). I 'm using the add-on file set -up ie addon folder in Celestia extras, in there a folder called Saturn5, with the ssc in it, then a models folder, and a textures folder with a medres folder in it with the jpegs in there, this set-up works fine with the rest of my collection.I like keeping the fiddled around bits separate.
A gantry to go with it would be nice too! I'm trying hard with Anim8tor,but little progress so far, as you may well have guessed. if it might help
following is celurl for current situation

Can anyone advise or take this on?

Thanks ,
regards Ziggy
ps If someones already done all this, could I have it?

I had a try with my 3D modeling program.
But I can't make the textures work either.

Jack Higgins and BH do some great modeling work around here.

Jack Managed to put all the Words and logo's, on to a Space Shuttle model,
without the need for any textures.

If jack or BH want to have a go, here is the direct link  http://www.amazing3d.com/free/apoll3ds.zip

Hi people,

I've downloaded the model and fixed the problem with the textures, so they are now working just take a look ;)

The fixed model can be downloaded from:

P.S.: The model will be in this temporary free account for some time until I get more space to host my files.

Thank you praesepe
But can you edit the model colour to be white instaed of grey ?
and the black and white check texture is missing from the top section ?

Before anyone says that the link is bad
Just right click the link and choose "Save Target As"

Sure! here's a new release, this time with a more white tint. I've also reescaled the textures in order to have a better look on closeups (some of the textures on the previous edited model were scaled from 512x512 to 256x256). And sorry for the b&w check texture, I just forgot to include it when I edited the model! Its fixed now ;)

Here are some screenshots:

I am updating the old zip with the new one, so it will be available on the next minutes ;)

Yeah, the Saturn V was white, and nowhere near that specular-looking.

Perfection.
Thanks again praesepe

Hello all,
Thanks everyone, esp. prasepe. I'm pleased to discover I wasn't far off the mark with the texture re-working, but embarassed  to discover that it wasn't working because in my folder structure ie "miniature celestias" I had omitted to put the jpegs in a medres folder, but had put them straight into the textures folder....ah well, it's no fun if it's too easy.
Can anyone write up a better ssc for it? In fact, I find that near the horizon I get a very flickery sort of effect, I've discovered this happens, when I was trying to see a solar eclipse from a ground position; so what about positioning the rocket up in the air a bit, and even better (maybe) having some flames added on. About the only things I've managed to build in anim8tor are spikey ball and cone type things, so maybe they'll come in handy.. it would lessen the need for a gantry too.
Anyway, I'm now turning my attention to my new Zepplin, which at present is orbiting the Earth, not only at an improbably quick speed, but also sideways on.
Bye for now,
Ziggy. :D

Praesepe:

Have you done an ssc file for the Saturn V? Could you post that as a link?

Frank,

I'm not too good at creating scc files for trajectories or xyz files :( Perhaps one of our experts here (hello Jack, Selden, Grant.. ;-) ) could create an accurate and suitable scc file for it..

It's gone a lot of time, but meanwhile I heard nothing more about the .ssc file regarding the Saturn 5 with Apollo 13  .
I remember someone was speaking about an xyz file that should show the Saturn on the Kennedy base and then up to its orbit, but I missed it or it has not been done :? .
Someone can help or inform me, please? :D
Thanks a lot

Not a xyz file, just a ssc one, but you can use the ssc file of the 'Atlantis launch' by Jack Higgins (See on the Spacecrafts download page on the site #23), no?
I try (i say: i *try*!) to change it, placing SaturnV at the highier altitude, before separation of the first stage. Abstract:

EllipticalOrbit {
Period 0.997269558 #synchronis?
SemiMajorAxis 6115.5 #juste avant la s?paration du premier ?tage?
MeanLongitude 199.8423333
}

But i am not an expert, and don't know where (location) the rocket was, at this altitude (there, a xyz file should be welcome), so my test upon the KSC is inacurate, but i don't find a better one:?
If someone can make a good one....
Jeam

Jeam, that's enough for the moment, thank you very much :D :D :D .
Anyhow I'm sure that someone will make the xyz file, isn't it? 8O
Thank you again
