Ok I plan on redoing all of the extrasolar planets...As this is hypothetical renderings, none of these are considered real...

First up is upsilon Andromedae (3 planets):

http://cybermindtraveller.freewebspace.com/files/upsand.zip
^^ Download and extract directly to the Celestia root folder...This will overwrite your current extrasolar.ssc file, but I couldnt see any other way to do this :(

http://cybermindtraveller.freewebspace.com/pics/surf_upsand_c-ii.jpg
^^ Couple of preview pictures...

As you can see I based my textures on the artist renditions shown on this site...as well as a majority of my data...

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Newest version of the Extrasolar system project ready for download...

This is the hi-res texture file version...As soon as I have completed the entire project I will be releasing a lo-res texture version...

Currently this version sould be fine on 32 meg video cards and up...

Enjoy!

Hey Rassilon, could you make that one extragalactic planet on that site?

by Rassilon
Whenever I figure out an easy way to add stars to stars.dat

But I could duplicate the texture the planet uses and stick it somewhere un the Celestia universe I guess...

Heres an update on this project...

A brown dwarf...

Im thinking of also adding in a fictious solar system around it...Any ideas?

Adding to the extrasolar.ssc

Hey Rassilon I found a better way to add the extrasolar.ssc. Instead of overwriting the whole .ssc just make one with the name of the star, in this case the one I am working on HD 28185 and build on that. Then go into the exrtasolar.ssc and coment out the entry for that star with a # sign. Just as if you were turning on and off texture compresion or some other feature. This has worked great for me and I don't have to worry about messing up the extrasolar.ssc file
By the way glad you liked my volcanic moon. I have it in my version of a system for HD 28185. If you would like I could send you a copy of the HD 28185.ssc and all the textures needed for it. Its quite an extensive system. I chose this system for the simple fact I wanted one with a large gasgiant orbiting in the life zone of its star and had a near perfectly stable orbit. That way I could create some very interesting satalites for it. From everything I have researched this system fit the bill. To bad its about 100 lightyears away.

True but your still modifying the extrasolar.ssc when doing that..but it does allow for you to find the system in question to edit or add on to easier...

Well this project is bigger than one man...If you want we could do this together...I have maybe 20-30 more systems to go...but they are pretty streamlined as far as content...I want to add entire systems eventually...and well would more than be glad for the help  But if not I could use your extrasolar system in my addon with proper credits of course!

Email it to me at: ksw13us@yahoo.com...

Thanks!

btw, heres two more planets for this project...

You should see this gas giant on time lapse...

http://cybermindtraveller.freewebspace.com/pics/zepple.jpg

And an earth like sattlite of the gas giant Zepple...

http://cybermindtraveller.freewebspace.com/pics/monica.jpg

Considering that its orbiting Sirius B it should have a moderate surface temprature...Would like to be able to add a temprature source to emissive 'planets' ;)

If you want to prepare zips for your systems, I could host them in my site. If you prefer to host them yourself, please drop me a link so I can add it to my list. I just don't believe that leaving scattered references around the forum allows enough people to enjoy your masterpieces (I'm not kidding!)

Celestia is gaining momentum!

Extra Solar Help

Rassilon,
I would be willing to give you a hand at this task. I would need a list of the systems you have done so I would have a starting point that way we wouldn't overlap and do double the work. This would give me an idea of how your thinking on these systems is. Striaght out fiction or try to keep it a little more general and realistic or have some fun and do a little bit of both when it suites us.
I would be glad to send you my HD 28185 system when I finish with it. I have do more checking and see what I need to do more work on. As soon as I feel its ready for everybody I will let you know. I am trying to make it as authentic as posible while having some fun at the same time. Of course we only now of just the one planet but it makes sense theres more. Keep me posted. You email me at donedwards@mac.com

In the extrasolar.ssc file I have been doing them in order from top to bottom...I am currently on HD 108147 and am going to be changing all the browndwarf coding...As soon as I get the skeleton of this beast done...you should have your system done...then we could go from there...

I guess we could work around all the planets, see which ones need fixing etc...My astronomy isnt the best so you might be better at that than I...

I hope anyway ...What we need is an expert astronomer whos got the time to sort out the data...

Hey Rassilon,
Sounds like a plan. I need another day maybe two before I am ready to let my HD 28185 system out to the wilds. Astronomy has always been a hobie of mine. Always thouhgt of taking a course in it. I think we could come up with some pretty neat stuff for the extrasolar systems.

Heres an idea for a black hole I've been throwing around...

http://cybermindtraveller.freewebspace.com/pics/blackhole.jpg

The only problem is with emissive objects, they still cast shadows...other than that...this is about as close as I can get without coding...

Hey Rassilon

Hows this http://homepage.mac.com/donedwards/.cv/ ... g-link.jpg

This is supose to be a blackhole with a solar accreation disk around it being pulled from a nieghboring star.

by Rassilon
The problem with the disk is that it doesnt look gaseous...I think that the ring should look somewhat between mine and yours...Let me see what I can come up with...or you can if time allows

In fact send me, or post the scripting for that and I'll modify the look a bit if you don't mind?

Black Hole

Rassilon,
I posted the .ssc for the black hole I made. You can get it here.
http://homepage.mac.com/donedwards/.cv/ ... p-link.zip

After I saw yours I through this together rather quickly. I didn't try to use any transparency as well as you know the trouble I have been having with making them. Do you think you could post or email me a copy of the clouds you through together on the pictures you posted in that maylay of info from the other subject. I would appreciate it. You can send it to impulseman36@attbi.com
I don't know if you saw what I did with jovian clouds in one of the posts I made. If you didn't look it up under Celestia-Users-Animated Gasgiant clouds. Know one has given me any feed back on them. Maybe I need to do a slightly better capture. The avi realy doesn't do the effect justice.
What I really need to do is go back in and see if I can clean the cloud texture some more. Or maybe its to good and they think its fake. I don't think anyone could think that. I can tell that its not real. Let me know what you think.

Ok I'll email the black hole files to you later on in the day...

Heres an external system from the Doctor Who mythos...

Synosis:
TRAKEN Located in Mettula Orionsis, the Union of Traken was a multiplanetary confederation held in a state of harmony by the Source, which was controlled by the Keeper. After the Keeper's dissolution, the Master (disguised as the Melkur) temporarily became the new Keeper. He planned to use the Source to turn the Union of Traken into an all-conquering force and seize another body for himself. He was exposed and prevented from remaining Keeper by the Fourth Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Council Tremas (5T). The Union of Traken was later destroyed when the Master tampered with Logopolis (5V).

Clouds

Rassilon,
Could you possibly send me a copy of the clouds texture you made and used for your Traken II planet. Its just what I am Looking for. Similar enough to be used on an Earth type planet but yet differing enough that they don't sceam "I'm Earths clouds". I would be grateful.
By the way. I have finshed with the HD 28185 system and am copying the custom textures that it will need into a zipped file. I will let you know when its done and ready to be sent.
I have all but given up on posting anymore gasgiant animation info due to the lack of everyones interest in it. If everyone gets interested in them again I may go back to work on it. I'm not going to waste the time working on something I think has real potential and not get any feed back on it. Not one single person said anything about the screen captured avi movie I put together and I didn't even here anything from Chris about posible multitexturing of clouds. He normaly at least makes some kind of coment. I will now plan out which extrasolor system is next to tackle instead.
