I?m not sure if this has been asked, and if it even exists (if it does, bad luck! :( ), but the idea isn?t that strange...
I looked at CELESTIA for the first time a week ago, and after a very pleasant stunt, i started thinkng it would be an exelent idea to do something alike, but for the earth; I know it mst be a totally diferent thing, but i wanted some other opinion.

Have a nice day, Antrix

Whch aspects of the Terrestria were you thinking about?
http://www.terrestria.com seems to be an artistic site, with well designed pages which direct you to different pieces of the author's artwork.

Certainly Cel:// URLs can be used to take you to any place that Celestia can draw. It's "only" a matter of someone taking the time to structure a Web site around that function.

I didn?t mean actualy "www.terr...."

What I was thinking of was a sort of celestia but for the world...
The most near image I can think of, is of a sort of fhightsimulator ambient.

Probably I?m just saying bullshit, and I?m sorry for that, but as i said, I preffer to express my idea to you, because I see that you know what you are doing, and probably would have liked it.

Be happy, Antrix

if i understand you, it has already been done. but its not a free program and its only for NVidia users.
its name is "EarthViewer 3D NVIDIA"
it has only the planet erath with very high resolution textures of many places in the world. for example i some time ago i saw the place where the twins towers were standing.
its a good program.

thanks "Pelado" I was meaning something like that.

Thanks, Antrix.

I installed EarthViewer 3D by NVIDIA recently in hope it will be something technically very advanced, but I regret it.

This program is, unlike Celestia, very ugly, slow and user-unfriendly. I wouldn't install it even if it was freeware, but noooo, I have to pay for it.

This is just one more evidence that commercial product sucks almost every case...

It is obvious that technology used in this program requires much more processor power and more advanced graphic cards - in ten years maybe..

Terrestria is a very good idea, but I don't know how it should work. We still don't have the technology for that kind of detail, plus to remain fast on our computers...

Note that ElPelato didn't tell you how much he enjoyed detailed textures of Earthviewer 3D - after he bought it and wait approx 4-5 minutes for textures to load...

I haven't tried TerraExplorer, but EarthViewer seemed to do the job quite well, although with a 56k modem it takes a while. Unfortunately, it costs money, and since it requires internet authorization (to download textures) I suppose cracks wouldn't work. Not that i'd ever support software piracy... ;)
