Well working a bit on this project Im wondering just how one of these really looks...I came up with this simple rendering of it...I am looking to add a better look to the overall texture and is there jets coming out of the star?



Also it seems that the model itself is back to the old school of rendering...Its appearing in front of the star once inside the model just as before...This is due to the fact I have it 0.001 au distance from the center of the star...Putting it at a period of 0.0 allows the star to appear in front of the rendered model...You know it looks better this way IMO...so chris forget that request for now I suppose...I think ill just stick to this procedure...

The protostar mesh is a good beginning, but here are a few suggestions. During the protostar stage, the central star is drawing nebula gases and matter in by gravity, with other places in the flattening disk of nebula beginning to coalesce into planets. There are no jets. I'd suggest adding a bit of transparency to the mesh, and dropping in some small "clumps" that represent planets in formation. Naturally, the scale of those clumps in relation to the central star is tiny, but perhaps some irregularity (swirls) in the disk which would appear to be other centers of mass, would look good.

Here is an artist's sketch of a protostar: In this sketch, the scale of the planets is way too big, but it shows the idea.



The star does not yet ignite in nuclear fusion at protostar stage. It is still just glowing hot and building mass. Its texture, therefore, should be a bright brown dwarf or perhaps a red giant texture or something like it, rather than the lit up g star or other texture. It would not yet have sunspots (to the best of my knowledge).

Murphrid B, one of the add-on solar systems, has a reasonable texture for a protostar, although it shows sunspots which I don't think would be there yet.

I was under the impresion from all the astronomy programs I have seen that there were jets that came from the star at the time of ignition. Then they disapear as the solar winds kick in and start to disperse the gas and dust. I could be wrong unless the whole therory of star creation is changing that drasticly.

OK, I appear to stand corrected. After Don's post, I did some net surfing and discovered numerous references to jets coming from rapidly spinning protostars. However, I also found references discussing stellar formation that do not mention them, or claim they are not that common. Note that the protostar image I included in my last post is from the NASA website and no jet is apparent.

Jets may or may not be common. The jury appears still out. From the standpoint of the protostar mesh, I don't need the jet. It just complicates things and I would assume, makes the mesh more difficult to model.

Commander David, it's exactly what was missing in my "The Solar System" .cel file.
It's absolutely realistic.
