So I decided to edit the catalogues of Celestia myself to make it easier for me. This started a huge project I'm working on,
I hesitate to share it here because I'm not sure about the copyright of the materials I'm using, but it should be compatible
with a creative commons licence. I attached just the catalogues and modified configuration to show you what I'm doing.

Maybe a new version of Celestia will fix some of these problems.
quote from here

I agree with this assessment. I work with Celestia 4 years.

Zemlyanin developed a new structure, which was used for Celestia Extended Pack v3.0 assembled in Russia (2014):

data folder is renamed in catalogs.
extras-standard folder is renamed data.
extras folder remains empty. It is intended for the user.
New folder lua-applications.

An updated database of Planets and moons (29.04.2016) solarsys.ssc

In Celestia EP v4.0 will include an updated database of the planets and moons of the 04/29/2016. The file names of nameless satellites in solarsys.ssc will be listed with the prefix "S" (both in the official designations). A slash "/" is replaced by a hyphen "-". Compare screenshots:
