Hi John,

that's one of the oldest, dumb MS Windows issues that has ever existed. Windows itself is just too plain dumb to check the file header and just acts according to the file extension.

It's very easy to circumvent, when you know a little bit about computing (which seems not to be the case with the "digital natives").

You just need to open any text editor in Windows and then open the README or COPYING. Or right-click on the file and select from "Open with ..." a text editor.

Regards,

Guckytos

Methinks that John is just trying to make a point here...

Anyone who has used Windows for anytime at all knows how to circumvent
this particular defect in this operating system. That said, however, we do get the
occasional user on the Motherlode who does not know how to read a file when it
has not been given the obligatory .txt extension.

Thanks, Bob

For us not in win land it's really not much of a pain to instead open README.txt. So why not...
