The SourceForge Celestia developers list

Hello:
I try to keep the latest build of Celestia built on my machine, by daily updating the files from SourceForge CVS. I am coming up to speed on the code, and I hope someday to be able to contribute my own efforts to this project.
Currently, I am encountering build errors. I have posted one of them here, and received no response from anyone who is actually developing Celestia code. I was able to work around that one myself by a pretty simple hack (the error is caused by what seems to be an obvious bug in the resource file). However, I am now seeing another error that I cannot fix. It showed up last week.
I see that there is a developer's forum on SourceForge. It is full of code-related messages similar to the kind I would like to post (170 messages in the current archive). However, it appears to be restricted to active Celestia software developers.
So, to those of you who _are_ active developers, and read this current (shatters.net) forum, am I allowed to join the SourceForge list and ask my code-related questions, or should I give up on building Celestia?
Honestly, it surprises me that the forum you are currently reading, named "Celestia Development" does not have any active discussions of that type. It appears that the current forum only address non-code Celestia development. It doesn't seem fair that the only forum where code-related discussions do take place is private. Although maybe, in "fairness", if I want to engage in such discussions I should be required to contribute some code. This would be more likely to occur if I were not stalled right out of the gate.
I have quite a bit of code on the IRIDIUM satellites, not to mention that my name is on one of them. Since there is a Celestia add-on that shows the IRIDIUM satellites, would that count as a contribution to Celestia?
Feel free to tell me what you think!
