Globular Cluster Generator

Well as you can see Ive scratched the idea of making a planet builder per say and have gathered all my resources into this singular ap...I am hoping to have ready for you all sometime today around the afternoon Mountain time...depends but really the only thing left I can see wrong is my custom planets are coming out with crazy orbital info...There is however this ugly gap in the center of the generated clusters that keeps appearing and dissapearing...I am completely clueless on where its coming from...It comes and goes...so all I can tell you is to generate several until you get one that comes out right...Im through trying to figure it out...as I am guessing the variables celestia uses isnt accurate enough...It needs to go to the 12th decimal place or something instead of the fourth when using Ra and Dec...Anyway I'll see what I can do...

Well I ws a bit delayed and decided to go ahead and release this...There may be some bugs in it still but generally it works great...There seems to be a bug in the custom planets bit...but I am sure I can get that fixed in v1.3

Main EXE install program...
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/cluster.zip

Extras (pulsar textures and the planet Svartos) d/l this if you dont care about the planets and want to fill the cluster with pulsars and the black hole only...
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/gc_extras_v2.zip

Main texture zip self installing file (Make sure you choose the Celestia main root otherwise the files will load incorrectly. It is set by default...~35 megs
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/gc_tex_v2.zip

If you find any problems feel free to post the issue...Make sure you read the readme files and follow the instructions given in the tool tips...Any other questions, direct them here ;)

Just a heads up...Im already working on a couple of bugs on the custom planet addon for this generator...The rings arent working right for custom planets also the plotting of the custom planets will be changed...It was far too random I noticed...so far I havent noticed any other problems...

Selden heres the generator zipped up inc source and drivers in one folder:
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/generator.zip

Sorry I didnt get to that sooner...

Ok I can no longer get it to screw up...even the gap seems to have disappeared so check out this last version fix...If you find errors please let me know...

Install version (Self installer)

Unzip version (Unzip to HD version)

Another update...I was messing around to see how it preforms and made just recently the M22 cluster...so it seems this is working fine...

Heres the log files amd the actual stc/ssc files so that all can benefit from this tool ;)

http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/cluster_addons.zip

I am also going to be incorporating a spreadsheet style editor that will allow you to parse cluster information into the generator and batch create several clusters at once...This will be a feat so wish me luck ;) (for ver 1.3 or 1.4 for sure)

v1.3 is up...Has some fixes and new textures...

Install program

non install zip
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/generator.zip

new textures...unzip to the medres directory...
http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/gc_tex_v3.zip

Well should be all fixed...suppose so since no one is reporting any errors ;)

Ras',

Unfortunately your link to the textures file is incomplete: you left off the .zip at the end.

And don't forget to update your the Web page.

Thanks!

If i was a programmer, i'd be all over this.. please, don't listen to the ignorant who blow off the largest Unix platfom..... Mac OS X. everyones busy making all sorts of commercial apps. But Freeware is, by no means, dead on the mac. It's, actually, thriving, especially, in the science and med communities. This is the main reason i think that Celestia will be a big success on the Mac platform as well.

Sorry, got excited...

If I had a MAC I would most likely convert this over to it as with linux...I suppose when I have the resources to do so I will....but in the meantime all of you can make use of the cluster code I output with this tool...

The link is above...or here: http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/cluster_addons.zip

Where's the source, Luke?

lol here is the main source code for the generator...The rest is just for VB buttons and other text manipulation with any programmer can add with no problems...

http://www.celestiaproject.net/~rassilon/main_code.txt

I wont be offended if someone built this from the ground up on the linux box as I would like to see what someone else would do as opposed to mine....*hint hint*

thanks

Thanks, Rassilon.

Actually, I just found the source in generator.zip, as mentioned in a previous post. Sorry I missed that earlier.

You wouldn't mind if I were to convert this to Java just for fun?

No I wouldnt at all Hank and would very much like to see what you do when its complete...The way I did alot of the variables can definately stand to be changed...And whatever you do may reflect in future versions ;)

Now, how do I make the SSC Code for these clusters because I am going to make the Omaga Cluster  Image

plug in the variables in the generator it will do the rest...best to start out small depending on its location and all...some of the variables will have to be scaled differently than the other log files included in the log folder...

R +/-
D +/-
and
d +/-

Core element can be reduced to increase the core size which would be good for that particular cluster...
