I've dug in the forum and I'm not sure about who have made the translation, but just for my one cent, I believe that in these cases to be better doesn't translate the words.



Others boxes also have the text's overflow.

Just as examples:

Confini delle costellazioni = Mappa costellazioni (it match the length)

Code delle Comete = Comete (the tails are implicit);

Ombre delle eclissi = Eclissi (the shadows are implicit);

Ombre degli anelli = not translated;

Veicoli spaziali = Astronavi (it match the length) or not translate;

Nebulose = Nebule;


Testo informativo:

Nessuno = Nullo

Conciso = Breve

Dettagliato = Completo

indeed, that's a problem...

I'm not sure changing the strings is the best solution. They are also used by the other interfaces which don't have the same problem, it's just the MFC that are hopelessly outdated.

The first step should be to fix the dialog and make all labels as wide as possible, some of them are narrower than the space available. Then if some strings still don't fit in, we could look at alternative translations.

See the i18n page for translation instructions and the name of the latest translator.

I've sent an email to Mauro Santandrea. I'm waiting for developments in the situation. Surely the enlargement of the label is the best, since it would resolve this problem even for other "long words" languages.

By the way, which version are you running? I remember fixing this dialog before.

Celestia 1.5.0 pre3. My Celestia 1.4.1 is still in English.

Nevertheless, here there is the res_it.dll patched. The Zip include a .rc file of DLL resources with the new lenghts of the labels, buttons and new text.

I would like to thanks Fenerit for opening this topic. I normally test my translation on Celestia 1.4.1 for KDE on Fedora 7, which doesn't show this problem.

Other languages, e.g. German, may need strings even longer than Italian so shortening the strings could be a workaround, not a solution.

About the proposed translation, in my opinion is certainly understandable and good for everyday spoken language, but it doesn't match the exact (let's say "scientific") meaning of original English text. I wouldn't introduce an unperfect translation for fixing an user interface issue which happens on a specific software version for a specific operating system. Probably "the" solution is in fixing the user interface behaviour in that situation.

Sorry for this delay. I'm happy of your replay. Yes, enlarging the labels and box is the best solution. My suggests for the text were just indicative, without pretentions. Now, once informed about this "language overflow" problem, I'll remove the above link to the patch.
