Alright. I'll check them. Though I think rings should be activated by default

Qt or native win version? For Qt it's File->Preferences. For native win no changes since 1.6

Oh dear I wouldn't have thought about that! Yes, all these objects were disabled. Thanks for pointing that out. Would be nice if Celestia didn't disable moons and dwarf planets by default :eh:

There are 2 executables in the archive:
"celestia-qt.exe" this one has the new solar system browser
"celestia-win.exe" this one has fading orbits

It does not. You used an old 1.7.0 builds so Celestia picked up your saved configuration created when there where no means to disable rings and minor moons, so old saved render flags are interpreted like they have them disabled.

-qt is a crossplaform version common for all 3 platforms we support. -win version uses only native windows libraries for GUI. While we try to keep them in sync, -win may drag behind and new GUI features are in qt version only as we don't have windows programmers.

I see, thanks for clearing this up. Does this mean the fading orbit feature was removed along the way?

No, it's supported in all versions. Check preferences.

Something that needs to be upped at some point, the one light year lender limit for sub-stellar bodies.

We already implemented this, it's controlled through celestia.cfg.

If there is no virus in your copy of the Celestia 1.7 binaries, then you should report the detection of a virus as a "false positive" to your anti-virus provider. You'll need to provide the Celestia binaries to them or point them to the downloadable files so they can verify the problem. Most AV companies are very quick to fix this type of problem.

Once 1.7.0 is released, it needs to be added to Wine's program compatibility list.

Sorry if I haven't replied in some time but I use Win. Qt has too small a screen for me

It's a native on GNU/Linux and BSD flavours. Why should we care about Wine (though I use it this way sometimes to check if it works).

Just keep Wine's compatibility for Celestia going, and I don't know if any of Wine's developers know if Celestia is alive again.

Does it mean that you are no longer officially developing a Windows version? Because it makes the whole project a lot less interesting and makes celestia.Sci a better alternative...

I think that's jumping to conclusions there. We still got windows versions of Celestia 1.7.

Besides, celestia.Sci is going nowhere.

onewothree,
For Wine all you would have to do is submit the finshed version of 1.7.0 to Wine's app data base on the "Submit App section of their app data base site (appdb.winehq.org), though you will need an account in order to do so.

Kinda off-topic but is it possible we could have rings around stars, too? They would need to have some sort of Emissive True property as well as a much greater visibility distance. This might enable the implementation of circumstellar disks.

Sounds like you mean debris rings in unformed or forming planetary systems.
Could be fun modelling a system with a neptune or a super earth in the middle of a ring.
