How do I make custom content for Celestia?
Create planet, star or deep space catalogs,
create models or
create scripts.
You might take a look at the Web page http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celest ... intro.html
It describes some of the things you might try.

Any reason for sparing out 'custom textures' of celestial bodies? These are neither models nor catalogs.

Sorry, but I and many others have created LOTS OF textures that were NOT parts of a catalog... If one creates a texture one just DOES it. Who cares about catalogs in most cases?
I simply felt that textures should have been included in your list above, OR you should have just given your link...Texture creation is/has been one of the most intense custom activities by users.

Some likely causes of problems are listed in section 6 of the addon-intro page. Often it turns out to be something "it couldn't possibly be," so be sure to check them all.
