Web-based Celestia - Dream or reality?

Hi,

I've seen several other posts where people ask for a web-based version of Celestia.

- Celestia as ActiveX component? (Dec 02, 2002):
http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1396
- A web-based Celestia (Apr 21, 2004):
http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4516

Did anyone succeed in building such a component?
Also, given the huge memory and cpu requirements, is it actually feasible to implement this kind of functionality inside IE or Firefox?

I suspect it's unlikely that an entirely Web based version of Celestia would be developed, although there are some Java based applications that can draw orbits.

There was a user interface developed for Celestia based on Flash, which might be adapted. See http://www.futurelab.org.uk/showcase/ne ... /index.htm
