Thing is does anyone know of a red trinary system? This book I have isnt exactly easy in just looking by star class ;) If I could get a label...cluster name etc...

A website that allows searches by stellar class would be excellent...These guys: http://www.stellar-database.com dont exactly have that...and I suppose they wont mention binary/trinary/or quad...

I modeled em in studio MAX...Ill be upping the models with the system when its complete...This one will have a TON of space vehicles I am hoping...first I want to figure out xyz files before I add them in...

btw I am interested in anyone who can make alien spacecraft...If you have access to some or can make some for me...full credit will be given of course when I post the download...Otherwise I suppose I can model some myself...I like the early italian oil painting type craft like Boris Vallejo would make...

I really like that top picture ! Did you do those glows in Celestia ? If so, HOW ?!?!

You could quite easily make the rocky bit underneath the planet more rocky using terragen. Here's something I whipped up in about 15 minutes. I did a bit of modeling (stretching) on the terrain mesh using Blender.

To make objects look like they glow, put
Emissive true
in the .ssc file. Unfortunately, they don't cast shadows.

In principle, one could put two stars really, really close together.
I don't know how well Celestia handles, that, though.

I'll have to try it if I can ever stop answering questions...

Well, it's obvious that Celestia 1.2.5pre7 isn't quite ready for 3 simultaneous light sources. Planets are only lit by the star they officially orbit. It does something funky with the orbit rendering, too. When looking at them from some viewpoints (usually in the orbital plane), they all get tunred off.

I used this stc file:

Code: Select all

# HIP 400000
400000 {
   RA  5.46783333
   Dec  -72.35763880
   Distance  7.0000
   SpectralType "G2V"
   AppMag 16.00 # Radii: 2.39161605156621
}
# HIP 400001
400001 {
   RA  5.46783334
   Dec  -72.35763889
   Distance  7.000001
   SpectralType "M2III"
   AppMag 16.00 # Radii: 6.28942675547579
}
# HIP 400002
400002 {
   RA  5.46783335
   Dec  -72.35763881
   Distance  7.000002
   SpectralType "R1Ia"
   AppMag 15.00 # Radii: 9.39166998487751
}

Distance resolution problems (too many 0's and the stars merge when they shouldn't) forced me to put them close to home.

I used some random planets in an ssc file, and got this:

Image

It's a little hard to see in the thumbnail. Clicking on it should get a bigger image. The stars are separated by a fraction of an AU. It's just a dull proof-of-principle, not artistic.

Selden, That is why currently Ive been using emissive planets as companion stars...I am hoping this will be fixed soon...Actual stars with flares look better...or the comprimise of adding flares as an option to emissives...

Thanks for the "emmisive" thing, selden. Can you also control the amount of emission ?

In case you don't believe my terragen method, here's another pic :

Edit : sorry it's a geocities page. In the unlikely event anyone doesn't already know, you have to copy this link and paste into the adress bar of a new window.

I might make something out of this... thanks for the inspiration, Rassilion, hope you don't mind...
