Hi Chris,

First off I would like to thank you and every one else that contributed in making Celestia.

Anyway I have noticed that it seems like a lot of people want to make their own universes. So far I have seen ideas for Dune, Star Wars and Star Trek. So I was thinking you might want to add a little more structure before it gets out of hand. The general idea is to create a Universe Directory; in this directory you would have a separate directory for each of the universes (Dune, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc..) the structure in this directory would be the same as the existing structure, this way people can build their universe without affecting the real one.

As an added benefit you could have all universes active, but place them in a hierarchy to have certain universes take priority over other if there should be a conflict.

Right now I would recommend two sub directories for Celestia, one called “Real”( Place all the earth ship models here) and the other called “Fantastic” (this would be an open internet collaboration of people willing to make a fantasy universe, that dose not exist in book or movie, if it did it would be its own universe)

A very good Idea...

Structured like this

* Celestia Users
* Celestia Bugs
* Celestia Development
* Celestia Addons
|_Real Space (Models and additions to our known universe)
|_Sci-Fi Addons\Models (Dune, Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who etc...)
|_Fantasy Addons\Models (User defined universes)

Well when enough people decide to do addons I'll bet he'll consider it...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!

Just wanted to bring this up again because lately everyone is building there own universe "mods" for Celestia, and it looks as if things might get out of hand. I can’t keep track anymore. Some people have some excellent ideas. I like the ring world, but the project is still lacking structure in my opinion for the add-ons. Thats my rant and rave. Keep up the good work all of you.

GF,

Note the age of this thread.

Many SF and fantasy Addons are readily available for downloading without seeming to need special categories in Celestia itself.

When you propose to create something, the people who care about a topic (realism, for example) are going to be the ones who comment. If you want to create something that's completely fantasy, that's entirely up to you. Artistic inspiration comes from within -- from your own interpretation of the universe.
