Hey there... got a question for the developers out there. I've read the GNU Public License and it SEEMS to allow for what I'm asking, but I just want to make sure.
I have recently learned how to download the source code and compile the latest build of Celestia (along with some REALLY great patches from some of the developers).
This new version not only has the latest official patches (by Dirkpitt and others) but some, as yet, unofficial, patches with some really cool features (like orbit lines in front of bodies and displaying start/end times for spaceships - courtesy of JosephWang).
It wasn't the end of the world to learn how to do this but it did take some time. I am preparing a set of instructions for non-coding Mac users like me to compile their own versions but, in the meantime, I was wondering whether I am allowed to just make my version available to other Mac users - so they, too, can enjoy these features as well.
I'm not sure what I would call it - to distinguish it from 1.4pre6 - but that's the cart before the horse b/c I'm not 100% sure I'm allowed to do such a thing. Thoughts on both would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I've got nothing useful to say to this but wanted to share that I think it's a nice idea Steve! (As I am a Mac user myself as well)

Thanks for taking the time to do this! Mozilla Firefox also has lots of unofficial builds
so it should be ok. The only issue is of course, is that you might want to make sure that
people don't download unofficial builds and then complain to Chris when an unofficial feature
doesn't work, i.e., make sure that the support questions come to you or this forum thread specifically.
