Francesca, I have partially translated the original 2002 Celestia guide, and if you wish I can send it zipped by e-mail (anyhow it's 1.8 Mb), but I've stopped doing it for a simple reason: Celestia is a never ending job, so that in one year we have at least a couple of new prereleases and one final release, most of them with so big improvements that we "MUST" install the new one.
But this means that the text we have translated is no more coupled with the new software, so...
I agree with you that the language is a big difficulty, but as you know the technical- scientific English is most of times very close to Italian (Latin- Greek), so that most of words don't need translation.
If you want, I should advice you to follow the "SCRIPTS" forum, where you'll find a lot of just ready packages, than can be shown by PC or with a videoprojector, giving a very nice interactive show (pay attention, NOT a movie, the teacher can act at will on this, even following students requests), that can be very easily translated, and that will not change with the new software releases.
I'm in touch with some Italian Natural Sciences teachers, and all of them are VERY interested to Celestia as a teaching tool, due to its notable visual impact on students.

The reason is that this post started in English and we will go on in this way, just for respect of the other non-Italian speaking people.
I think that English should be the OFFICIAL celestia language, don't you agree?
And, by the way, who are you, Mr. no country's }{ ?

I'm italian too, but I write in english, just because I often use that language in my job: I'm quite sure that speaking english nowadays is necessary...
Obviously I do like writing in italian (and in fact I currently write in italian for my job and for amusement ).
I'm glad to hear that someone translates Celestia's User Guide: I have only a small request and a prayer.
Please don't translate unnecessary terms, that are commonly used worldwide with english words: talking about computers, I remember that in the past years there were good people who translated everything.
What do you think about "if ... then ... else" (in computer programming), translated with "se ... allora ... altrimenti" ? Yes, it's formally correct, but here in Italy we say that "fa ridere i polli!" .
(Please help me translating in english for the other friends!)
Back to Celestia...
Just a couple of examples...
While terms like "Right Ascension" and "declination" can be correctly used instead of "Ascensione Retta" e "declinazione", just because terms are easily readable, words like "Solar flare" would need no translation: I'm not quite sure which is the correct translation in italian, but it doesn't matter!
Another example?
"Billow Maiden", the great rthorvald add-on to celestia: I absolutely don't know its meaning, but I don't care knowing it. There is no necessity to translate it!

Hello Pierluigi, I agree with you on the need not to translate English words that are commonly used in Italian language, like the ones you show.
But normally the translations are made using a (good) translating software, that translates almost correctly more than 80% of the text (but not the grammar, alas!), so practically everything, including "... then ... else", and on this results we apply the needed corrections.
In the past I had a lot of doubts on what to translate or not, because the language is evolving very quickly, and day by day new words enter in the common use.
Moreover thare are words that "cannot" be translated in Italian if not using long phrases.
I'm sure that Francesca will follow your advice, and will give us a neat Italian translation.

You won't believe me.....I'm Italian too I made a translation...I italianized the file "asterisms.dat" and I changed some constellations' diagrams to make them more recognizable ( even though they aren't "official shapes" I like them )
Have a Look:! (create a new notepad file...paste this and rename it asterisms.dat)

First of all because the Latin names are universally accepted and recognized, and second because they are easily coupled with the relevant achronyms.
I mean, it's very easier to memorize "ANT- Antlia" than "ANT- Macchina Pneumatica", or "PYX-Pyxis" instead of "PYX-Bussola", don't you agree?

Are you sure? Here are the ones that differ consistently:
ANT- APS- ARA- CAE- CVN- CET- CHA- CIR- COM- CRT- CRU-EQU- HER- HYA- HYI- LAC- LIB-MEN- MON- MUS- NOR- PAE- PSC- PSA- PUP- PYX- SGE- SGR- TAU- VOL, but I can add many more, like UMi, UMa and so on.

This is another thing,and I can agree with you, but why not an Italian translation of text that really needs translation?
There are many many things that if translated could be more useful for Italian CELESTIANS (a doubt, is this a new definition, or someone has already used it?).

Absolutely no need to be a programmer.
Bob Hegwood made a wonderful text named "Virtual Textures for dummies", Frank M. Gregorio his "Celestia User’s Guide", Don Goyette the "Celestia .cel scripting guide" and so on, and their translations would be surely very useful.
Surely each of them needs time, but not a programmer's ability.
