OK, I hope im not jumping the gun here Chris.
http://mostlyharmless.sourceforge.net/p ... e-sort.zip
(celestia.exe only)
Its based on what was in CVS last Friday, so pretty much 1.3.1pre3
If people could do the same with and without tests that I did above it would be great.
Keep in mind that for some of the addons I had to do a lot of zooming and rotating at the maximum magnitude limit to make them crash.

Ah, but you can install a Linux partition too in the same machine (It's what I have at home), at the cost of a pair of Gb of disk space. You can do this only before converting your FAT32 partition to NTFS, or you would need to reformat all the disk to make room for two partitions. If you are talking of a new machine, things are easier. I recommend you to try in the last one, because Linux is ideal to improve computer knowledge, specially with good English understanding.

JAMARSA: first of all, i dont have many free space on my disk. and i'm having lots of problems with my computer. so i wont try nothing "dangerous" now. at least i will wait to have my computer working properly with what i have now. then mayeb i will think of buying more RAM(i olny have 128M) and installing Linux. but not now.

Walton,
Your'e right, the shadow squares are not high enough. I've already fixed this in the next version which will be released when 1.3.1 comes out. (or when the crashing bug is fixed)

The location and nature of the Ringworld star is actually pretty well defined in the books - it's to the galactic north of Sol, and even has a Puppeteer catalogue number!
Hmmm. It seems Niven was using an unconventional version of "galactic north" in his book. I'd forgotten that the Puppeteer Fleet of Worlds was moving out of the galactic plane preparatory to heading for the Magellanic Clouds. Since the MCs lie south of the galactic plane, his "galactic north" doesn't make much sense in conventional coordinates. But the Galaxy, like Venus, effectively has two "north" poles. The conventional north pole is the one that lies north of the ecliptic plane, but its rotational north pole is the one from which it would appear to rotate anticlockwise - and for the Galaxy that lies on the same side of the galactic plane as the Magellanic Clouds. So Niven (like Celestia!) uses rotational north. That places the Ringworld star in our southern skies:
