Pinpointing a location (SETI stuff).

Post #1by OneEyedCobb » 30.06.2002, 07:27

I'm a SETI@HOME user and I was trying to find a way to pinpoint a location in space.

It would be nice to be able to type in right-accession and declination (using earth - or any selected object as a vantage point) and have this location center on the screen. Perhaps a toggled crosshair would be handy as well. This way I can figure out where SETI is tracking.

I can sort of do this by using the celestial grid but it's not too accurate.

Thanx much!

actually a SETI@Home addon would be really cool!

would be, yes, but celestia doesn't support decals on the "sky" background yet, as I was told...
That means we probably won't be able to keep a chart of the regions without any detecable extraterrestial activity in celestia.... :(
