Here's an interesting terrain rendering demo:

I wonder how something like this might look using the MOLA Mars data...

Having seen (and been disappointed by) quite a few terrain/dynamic-detail renderers, I have to say that I'm really impressed by this one.

It doesn't try to do too much, it just concentrates on doing specific things well. The end result is very fast and makes sensible compromises on texturing and popping, and its terrain lighting seems quite good. The source code looks pretty light and clean, which would make it a lot easier to work with than some I've seen.

Unfortunately it only renders correctly on nVidia-specific cards at the moment, although I'm sure that's something that could be fixed if it were to be used in Celestia.

I think that this is by far the best choice of terrain renderer so far for possible use in Celestia. I hope that it does get included, that would be something extremely special and would definitely make me upgrade from 1.2.5!

Cheers,
Paul

Ive been doing some research into this and have come up with a very good possible inclusion to the terrian dilemma Celestia now has...

with some time I suppose I could figure out how to integrate the two...
I'm trying to teach the cavemen how to play scrabble, its uphill work. The only word they know is Uhh and they dont know how to spell it!
