Hi,
I think the use of the keys on the numerical keypad is inconsistent : left/4 and right/6 mover the camera to the left and the right.
However, up/8 and down/2 move the camera in the opposite direction and the object moves up/down. This 2 keys should be reversed so that the movement of the camera is consistent.

inconsistency of the arrows on the numerical keypad
The 8&2 keys are designed to work like most flight simulators: 2 is used to climb, 8 to descend. They may seem reversed at first, but it emulates the way you move the elevator control in a real plane. It gives a choice to people used to control a simulator (me, for example).
If you don't like it, you can still use the mouse.

Inconsistency of arrows
Well, I suppose it is the difference between the people who consider the view as that from a camera or from a spaceship. As I'm not in the flight simulator business, I'm not familiar with the use of the keys in flight simulators. I think you have to get used to it...
But then the point should be settled whether Celestia simulates a camera or a spaceship. I know the opinions differ...

You are right in that celestia developers consider it more as a camera than a spaceship. But this choice make the other side happy. Anyway, as you can give the camera a travelling speed, the FS key scheme seems right in this case. As I already said, you can still use the mouse to control the camera POV in the right directions.
