Occassional reminder that the version 1.7.0 is still in perpetual development across all platforms, and unfortunately the previously linked Windows installer by cartrite is no longer available.
That being said variant of 1.7.0 (which is also a port of the mobile version) is available through the Microsoft Store

It kinda is to be honest. Like I said, the Microsoft Store variant is a port of the mobile Celestia that is used on Android and iOS, which uses features directly from the in-development 1.7.0 and is updated regularly as 1.7.0 continues to gain new content and features.

it has been a rather long time but i used to build the Celestia code on XP using MSys/MinGW
a linux enviroment for windows ( thew software uses MS's dll's and .exe )

i looks that it is now rather easy to install ( used to be a pain in the butt)
