The 2nd beta of upcoming 1.6.2 (windows version) is published to github.

I expect this to be a final 1.6.2 release unless we have new issues reported or fix/workaround for "Disable display scaling on high DPI setting" issue is found.

macOS build is coming.

The beta release needs to be uploaded to the archive repository.

Added after 25 minutes 40 seconds:
Also the file "cspice.dll" is missing and Celestia won't boot.

There is a strange PUP alert for the new file, just from one anti-virus engine:

Qihoo-360

Great! I can confirm that the star browser bug is fixed.

There are some bugs that I've found in the documentation accompanying Celestia v1.6.2

1. The menu Help -> About
says
Copyright (C) 2001-2019
That should be
Copyright (C) 2001-2020
=======================

2. README.txt needs several updates

A. The section "INSTALLING IN UNIX AND LINUX" needs to be updated.
...................

B. The section "CELESTIA RESOURCES" contains obsolete URLs.
Here are some updated links. I've omitted those I believe are unchanged.

Celestia Web Site:
https://celestia.space/

Celestia User Forums:
https://celestia.space/forum/

Selden's List of Resources for Celestia :
https://www.classe.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/

Celestia Source Code: (GitHub.com):
https://github.com/CelestiaProject/Celestia

Celestia Bug Tracking:
?

Celestia Feature Requests:
?
...................

C. The last paragraph of "GETTING STARTED" needs to be updated to provide
a link to the manuals on the motherlode at
http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/documentation.html
...................

D. The section "KNOWN ISSUES" needs to be updated.
e.g. it links to shatters.net
...................

E. The section "ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS" (at the bottom of the file) is out of date.
e.g. it references www.shatters.net
Chris Laurel's email address probably should be removed. (It might be obsolete.)

=======================

I'm in the process of testing some of my addons, but that'll take a while.

Hi,

I've downloaded and installed new celestia 1.6.2 this morning.

I 've got an anomaly (perhaps already said) about favorites.cel file.
I took my old file by copy/paste in 1.6.2 but after launched celestia, the favorites are empty ?
Do you know why ?

So I created a new favorite but I didn't see where it was ! :fie:

TY for your help.
Regards.

Selden,

Shouldn't we add the link to the archive repository: https://github.com/Anthony-B-Russo10/Celestia-Archive

the subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Celestiasoftware/

and the discord server: https://discordapp.com/invite/WEWDcJh

@Anthony, including those references certainly seems reasonable to me. Hopefully they'll be added to README.txt, too.

Note that I'm not directly involved in Celestia's code development and don't have write access to its github repository, so I'm leaving the editing of its documentation files to those who do. I'm just making suggestions for where I see room for improvement.

@jujuapapa, the change of location for the favorites file is mentioned in Celestia's file ChangeLog.txt. I dunno if that might be how you found it. (FWIW, I use the 3rd party program "Everything" to locate files when I don't know where they might be. I find it to be much more convenient than the Windows search option.)

I still wonder why you got the blue Developer tag when you're not involved in direct code development.

As well as why these members didn't get it.

Also selden, if you do want access to the GitHub repository you can just request it like I did.

Again you have to take it up with Alexell for the promotions. I know you had that complaint sometime ago. In fact, I can contact him if you want

we need to backport 1 fix from 1.7 version, that's easy and add code to migrate old favorites.cel to new location. so we'll release it when it's ready :)
