SPICE in Celestia

This posting is from Charles Acton, manager of the NASA/JPL Navigation and Ancillary Information Facility (NAIF) where NASA's SPICE ancillary information system is developed. (http://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/naif) I have recently come across some of the postings in this forum about SPICE, which have included some not quite correct information. If there are still open questions about if/how SPICE may be used in concert with Celestia, I'd be happy to answer these. And should there be interest in finding out about what recently added or planned SPICE capabilities might be useful to Celestia, I'd be happy to have a go at that, either via this forum and/or using a teleconference (which I could arrange).

The NAIF Team is very small and quite oversubscribed with work. This, plus the legalities of NASA timekeeping, mean we couldn't suddenly start doing a bunch of Celestia-specific support. But perhaps a few "conversations" between NAIF and the Celestia Development Team and/or some Celestia users can be accommodated.

I have not been a user of forums such as this to date, so an email response--at least to start with--might be best.

I am not a developer in any capacity, but I just wished to express my sincere appreciation for your interest
in our favorite program here. It is very good to know that - as busy as you people are - you can still take the time
to offer some help with this project.

Many thanks from Brain-Dead Bob
