"View posts since last visit"- Random working

I supposed this was a problem of mine, but I had confirmation that it's a common one:
when I first open shatters.net's index page and click on
"View posts since last visit" button, it opens a new page with all the posts I have not viewed.
Then I open one on them, read it, and push the IE "Back" button.
Well, most of times (but not always!) the result is a page saying:
"No topics or posts met your search criteria", even if many were to be viewed.
This is particularly disappointing because when there are many new posts I have to scan all single forums to find what is new or not.
Obviously it's not a Celestia bug, but I think this is the right Forum for the problem.
Thank you for your attention.
Bye

if opening new windows is not an option, the easiest way to avoid this is to use a browser that allows tabbed browsing and open all the interesting threads in new tabs while still keeping the overview open in the first tab.

I can't say I've ever had this problem Andrea, with either IE or Firefox. Try a different browser, see if that helps. You might like the way your new browswer works anyhow. :)

Thank you both for suggestions, but the problem is that in the past it worked flawlessly.
IMHO this means that in the last months something changed in PHPBB, or in Internet Explorer, or in both of them.
BTW WIN XP had a lot of security upgrades this year, so perhaps some incompatibility with PHP arose there. 8O
I'd like to know if someone else, using IE or other browserrs, had the same problem or not.
Thank you for cooperation.

OK Chris, this is clear to me, but I lived with IE for a lot of years, and I have a good feeling with it, so I would like not to change, if possible.
Obviously I can open the various posts in new pages, so that I have the "Search" page open, not loosing the list of unviewed posts, and this solves easily the problem.
Mine is only curiosity, I would like to understand what is the reason why IE (or PHPBB) doesn't work this way any more.

Have you ever tested Firefox (Mozilla)?
if not you should, perhaps in a few days you will forgot the years you spend on IE!! (indeed the tabs are very practical for what you do (1 tab your search page, the others tabs browsing many pages...))

Firefox is really so much better in my opinion. I do understand your not wanting to leave IE though. I have been known to open a window and close it by accident, thereby losing all "recent posts". I think one thing that would solve our problem is if the forum had the ability to show the last x posts, x of course being variable. Or perhaps the forum could show all posts since a certain date. The search engine doesn't really allow this.

Chris, my aversion for Firefox is due to a try I made with Mozilla Thunderbird, that I don't like because doesn't allow all the settings I love to have in my email browser (that's Eudora).
Moreover many software integrate in IE, but not in Firefox, IMO. 8O
Anyhow OK, I'll give a look.
Bye

Andrea,

You might like to check how you've configured your browser to handle cookies. If you're blocking cookies from shatters.net, that may cause similar problems to what you're getting.
