Not a bug, just a question.

Post #1by BrainDead » 07.02.2006, 10:48

When I start the latest version of Celestia on my old machine, I never
see the logo.png splash screen. Is there some way I can pause/slow down
the opening sequences so that I can see the splash screen?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I've tried everything I can think of to
display the thing when opening the program, and I really would like to
see it. Is this simply a case of "Not enough machine?"

The Celestia.cfg file is pointing to the correct image, but when I start
Celestia, I get about 5 seconds of white screen before viewing - by this
time - the rush to the Sun and then the Earth.

Anything I can do to correct this?

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

Have you tried adding a
wait { duration 5 }
at the beginning of start.cel ?

I think the hangup is caused by the "preloadtex" commands that are at the beginning of that script.

Try reducing the texture resolution too - if it's at High Res then lower it to Medium or even Low. That should make it load up the textures quicker, so you can see the startup flight to earth.

Thanks very much for the suggestions Selden, Dr. Thomas.

I'll play with the start cel for a while and let you know what happens. I have
tried some delays (waits) but I didn't think about the preloads or the high
or medium textures.

Thanks again.
