Can anybody help Celestia only runs the greating welcome 'movie' then gives the following error:

'The instruction at "0x69028798" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

Any suggestions please.

This suggests that you need to update your system's graphics drivers. It's probably crashing when it tries to use vertex programs to draw the specular reflections on the Earth's oceans.
