Won't run after loading

As the subject line states, Celestia will not run at all. I just downloaded the latest version. When I open it it does load but beyond that nothing functions and the only way to close it is by using Control Alt Delete. My graphics card has been recently update. I was on one occasion after installing it able to get it to work. I've read the FAQ. If anyone has a solution let me know please.

OS is Windows 98SE
Card is a SiS 305 V. 1.13

Does it work if you disable hardware acceleration?

I often watched this behavior, when the celestia parser came across a severe syntactical error inside a ssc or stc file (mostly '}' errors). The parser hungs and celestia didn't start up.

You should step by step disable recently installed or modified addons.
