I have read the posting above that suggests uncommenting the line

#IgnoreGLExtensions [ "GL_ARB_vertex_program" ]

in celestia.cfg. But as soon as I do, Celestia claims it can't read the the configuration file. Any idea why?

Are you using Windows?

If so, you probably need to rename the file back to its correct name.

Unless you've set your system file system options correctly, Notepad will "help" by renaming the file to be celestia.cfg.txt. That prevents Celestia from finding it.
