Meshes have seams

When you apply any kind of noise or displacement on a mesh, the mesh has a seam which is not present in the software I use to create the mesh. It seems to only appear in Celestia. Can some sort of MeshSmooth command be added to the ssc code in order to possibly get rid of this artifact? I am still hestitant on creating planet models due to this ugly blemish that shows on models in Celestia...

Stunning.
What are you planning to do? Create a molecular universe?
Don't forget do provide a sightseeing tour with a visit of the best places as soon as it's ready!

Have you tried a cmod version,Ras,when I was making my moon models all of them have an ugly seam along 180 degree line in 3ds in Celestia,no matter what I did in Max to try to hide it,but the cmod versions are fine.Jestr

jestr,
What steps do you do to remove the seam?
I did the following:
E:\cmod>3dstocmod cratered.3ds > cratered.cmod
E:\cmod>cmodfix -b -s 45 -u cratered.cmod c.cmod
Im not sure what would work but all that didnt remove the seam...It looks the same...

nm jestr I figured it out:
E:\cmod>cmodfix -b -u -w -n -s 45 cratered.cmod c.cmod
Thanks for the suggestion this cmod format is pretty cool...One thing that I would like to know is how to get past the 64k barrier on 3ds files...I definately want higher resolution meshes but 3ds just plain sucks...

The only way I know is to split the mesh up into smaller sections (after applying the texture) so that the 3ds file consists of several objects but each one under 64k.This is how I have used the Space-Graphics big Earth model in Celestia before-I had to slice the Earth up into about 10 horizontal strips, each less than 64k in size.I sliced it after applying the texture and it worked how I wanted it,hope this helps,Jestr

Now thats using your head...seems a bit tedious...but until Chris or someone gets the nerve to write a plugin for studio max to output direct to cmod...what can you do...
Thanks again!
