Moon shadow and terminator are wrong?

Here are two images explaining my problem:
As you can see the Moon shadow (it's very big because it is part of my "Orrery.cel", where distances are very reduced and planets dimensions are smoothed a lot) is OK in the first image, when it is approaching the terminator, but in the second image it is cut at the terminator, while the still lighted texture is a bit further that line.
I understand that the day/light division is not a fixed line, due to atmospheric extinction, but it should be the same for the shadow, or not?
Please inform me on the matter, I mean if it's a bug or not.
Thank you
Andrea
Added later: obviously the Ambient Light setting is 0.0, and my system is Athlon 2700+ with XP Home, 1 Gb ram, Nvidia GeForce 4600 Ti 128 Mb
