Win 1.3.2 p6 - Screenshot Problems

When I try to get a screenshot (F10 or through the menu) what I end up with is the Save As dialog box in the middle of the picture. If I move the dialog box it makes no difference.

Anyone else having this problem in Windows?

Apart from still having a few scrambled picture results when pressing F10 and then ENTER to save, I've mainly been getting some good results in 1280x1024x32 fullscreen mode. There doesn't appear to be any outline of the save menu any more, which I am leaving in its top left hand corner position. :D

In maximised window mode I have had no problems....so far :D

I havn't had any instance of the save menu, in the middle of the screen. I wonder if screen resolution could affect this?

regards
TERRIER

The "bright stars where the popup windows were" bug is still with us in v1.3.2pre6. (See the "preliminary User's FAQ" for some workarounds.) I haven't seen an actual image of the menu in the saved screen image, though.

Don,

Have you tried an external screen-dump program?

The Windows keyboard command Ctrl-print-screen saves to the clipboard, which is an annoying extra step, but it does avoid the menu-overlay problem.

(I'll add this workaround to the FAQ; I hadn't tried it before.)

The strange thing is that it *was* working fine, in the not too distant past, as I've been posting screenshots. Now, all of a sudden, it's broke again. Very strange. This is what I get now...

I also tried it with my dialog box handler turned off and the result is the standard Windows dialog being in the picture instead.

The PrintScreen routine grabs the entire screen, not just the active window. Thus, you need to paste the resulting clipboard image in a paint program and crop it before saving it. Lots of extra work, but it does work.

Don,

As best I can tell, the menu overlay problem comes and goes with no rhyme or reason.

If you can persuade Celestia to run in full-screen mode, then you shouldn't have to do any trimming, since there wouldn't be any borders.

[added slightly later]
You might also want to consider the freeware program Screen Grab Pro from Traction Software. It'll grab either just the currently active window or a selected screen area and write it to both bmp and jpeg files.

Thanks for the full-screen PrintScreen tip.

Paintshop Pro has screen capture, and I use it sometimes. Thanks

Save As Dialog in F10 Screenshot

I noticed that all the complaints in this thread were about the pre-release versions, but I just wanted to chime in with the fact that I get this too with the official 1.3.2 release. About 1 in 5 snapshots have the Save As dialog box in them.

I've got a AMD 1800, WinXP Home, Chaintech GeForce4 Ti with 128 MB.

Thanks,

Jack
