Saturn's rings again

hi, nice to see 1.2.4, been playing with it a while. Just in case it was thought that the rings problem had been done away with though, here's a screenshot:
ugly, eh? Rings too faint and those spikey shadow bits shift and flicker when you look at it from different angles.
Graphics card is a 16meg generic job for a laptop.
OpenGL info:
Vendor: Trident
Renderer: Blade XP/AGP
Version: 1.2.1
Max simultaneous textures: 2
Max texture size: 1024
Supported Extensions:
GL_ARB_multitexture
GL_EXT_abgr
GL_EXT_bgra
GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array
GL_EXT_packed_pixels
GL_EXT_paletted_texture
GL_EXT_vertex_array
GL_WIN_swap_hint[/img]
is there currently a way to disable ring shadows? I remember chris suggesting that this would be an option in the future... anyone know a hack for this?
thanks
ogg
