I have 1.3.1, downloaded in December, running on a Dell 2.6Gig with a 5200 Nvidia card. I installed the new 1.3.2pre program and it doesn't work. I uninstalled the program, reinstalled it (it worked, then tried the pre again and got the same result.

I have a brand new Dell 4600 with a 2.6 Gig and Nvidia 5200 card.

Any ideas??

Is there a chance that you are running 1.3.2pre1 with the orbit rendering set to on? This has been causing crashes.

This may be possible by running another version of Celestia on your machine, that has the orbits turned on? Or maybe, by simply swapping the EXE. over ?

Just so you know, Terrier...

The problem with the orbits function lies solely with "Spacecraft" orbit rendering as far as I know.

In other words, you shouldn't have any problems viewing moon or planet orbits.

I am running WindowsXP Pro. Now when I reinstalled the program I made no changes to anything, just started it. I still got this problem.

That's the kind of thing that happens when you use "prerelease" versions of software. Sometimes the bugs bite. Downloading a new copy can't make any difference.

The bug is invoked because you have "draw spacecraft orbits" turned on in Celestia's defaults -- in the Windows registry.

Try typing an <escape> quickly, immediately after Celestia starts, before it has a chance to try to draw any spacecraft orbits. Then you should be able to open the "Render" "View Options" menu and turn off "spacecraft orbits".

Then exit from Celestia so it saves those settings as its current defaults.

Otherwise, you'll have to run Celestia v1.3.1 final to turn off that default value.

(This is one of the reasons why I rename the folder holding the old version of Celestia to be something like "Celestia131" before I install a new version into the folder "Celestia". I don't let the old version get overwritten. It's still available for cases like this.)
