^ Has anyone else noticed a difference? I am wondering what has changed...I just noticed this...
Before in 1.2.3 I believe I did not notice it looking quite so bad...It seems to be rendering in 256 colors or something...when I'm set to 32 bit...
Install of 1.2.4
Win 98 SE
GeForce 3 ti200
etc...

Oh and I forgot to add...I didn't have this problem while using XP...but the turnip will hash a partition when you install it with dual boot...so I havent got around to re-installing XP...but then I also remember back 2 months ago when I was using Win 98...Celestia did not have this issue? But then I also had an ATI Rage Fury....
?? Dunno...I guess I will switch active partition and install XP.....

Well also it sees it doesn't work right in Win 2000...I guess I will wait until its fixed before messing with any more installations etc...

Ok I have installed 98 and 2000 with updated drivers and the old drivers for my Ge Force Ti200...I have no choice but to install XP now to render textures at regular threshhold I guess...It would seem I am the only person in the world who is having this problem...figures.
I will report back with results on that...
I would suspect that this assinine problem would not happen if I was using Linux right?

Well XP is now doing the same...so I am reinstalling 1.2.3...
edit - Ok well it seems my video card is a piece of shit all of the sudden...I need help here configuring this back to the way I had it...I have no idea what has happened...I just installed as far back as 1.2.2 and this garbage is showing up on Venus and that planet I showed above...There is obviously something wrong and I have no clue what to do...so I am hanging up Celestia untill one of two things happens...1 I get a new video card or 2 I find out what has changed...considering I reformatted and installed 3 different operating systems today already
I am not a happy camper today...

^ Venus...You will notice the blotchy colors...when in fact it should be smooth like 24 bit NOT 8 bit...so I need from someone to give me the exact specs motherboard...cpu...video card that DOES NOT cause this...and Im going to go and buy those...I am guessing that will be the end of my problem...
My specs are
GeForce Ti200 64 Meg
Asus P4B
OS Win 98 SE 2000 and XP
Intel 1.5 gig 512 cache mem
So this configuration will work for maybe a month then will fail...maybe...who knows...All I know is I currently am screwed with these specs I guess and well when I get the money to buy what works...I will be back in business...in 2-4 months I guess...
Any help yould be greatly appreciated...

I'd be very surprised if there was a difference between 1.2.3 and 1.2.4. But if there is, I definitely want to know about it . . .
I believe that someplace there's a registry setting that determines whether textures are 16 or 32 bit by default. Perhaps this got changed somehow?
Also, what format is the texture? DXT1? JPEG? PNG?

Vader is PNG
Venus is JPG
And those are the only two doing it that I have noticed so far...I tried this on my roommates computer and he has a GeForce MMX and Venus looks fine...

Oh and Chris I installed 1.2.2 and it does the same...PLUS I formatted and reinstalled which would cancel the registry problem...This is the only thing that is giving me problems...I guess this means my Celestia days are over...quite possibly computers as well...I have had nothing but problems with IBM computers....
My best bet is to hope someday someone comes out with a far superior computer that has support...Like the Amigas were so long ago...

Well, don't give up yet . . .
I'll implement an option that forces 32 bit textures and you can see if that works for you.

Don't waste your time...Instead fix this...
Force resolution to 1024 x 768 as a minimum....That was what was causing that wierd effect...damn just my luck...It ends up being somthing stupid like that
Ok im back in business...
So for all users:
MAKE SURE YOUR SET IN 1024 x 768 OR ABOVE OR YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!
Win 98 I dunno as it was in 1024 x 768 if I remember correctly...
Whew I almost got rid of my video card...
NOTE TO MICROSHAFT USERS: Don't you just luuuuve it?
