Not until you tell us which addons you installed and exactly what steps you followed.

You should know by now that we aren't watching over your shoulder. We can't see exactly what you're doing, so we can't notice what you didn't remember to do.

This topic is the continuation of the nebula texture problem in Celestia 1.3.1 pre 11.I followed Kilee and Astroboy instructions,or other words,I create M42 subdirectory in Extras folder, put there the stc and dsc file;inside M42 directory,I create textures folder(where I put m42.png textures files) and models folder(where I put m42.3ds and ngc1977.3ds),but didn?t work.
I also try to put M42 texture in med res main directoy and the 3ds file in the models main directory folder.Like this :

Celestia>Extras>M42>M42.dsc
Extras>M42>Textures>medres>M42.png
M42-B.png
M42-C.png
Extras>M42>Models>M42-43.3ds
NGC1977.3ds
I also tried to put only dsc file in the M42 folder, textures files in main directory med res and 3ds files in main directory models folder.Like this:
Celestia>Textures>medres>M42.PNG
M42-B.png
M42-C.png
Celestia>Models>M42-43.3ds
NGC1977.3ds
Extras>M42>M42.dsc.

In this case, was Praesepe file. But I also tried with Astroboy Helix nebula, followed the instructions and this time,Celestia didn?t recognize what I wrote.
Tell me if Idid anything wrong

Daniel,

The way you described it first should have worked:
"It works fine for me." I dragged the M42 folder from the zip file into Celestia's extras directory. That puts all of M42's files into the correct places.

Do you have more than one copy of Celestia on your system?
If so, maybe you are running the wrong copy when you click on the desktop icon.

Open the Celestia directory that contains the extras directory where you put M42. Double-click on the Celestia.exe that is there.

Celestia>Extras>M42>M42.dsc
Run Celestia.exe that is in this Celestia directory.

I think the problem with M8 is the name of the object.
It'll be easier if you use Notepad and edit "M8 Lagoon.dsc"
Change the name of the Nebula from
"M8 / NGC 6523 / Lagoon Nebula"
to just
"M8"
then save the file
then run Celestia.

Does this help?

Daniel,

Well, the Helix Nebula requires you to put the files in appropriate directories yourself. I put them in the same directories that I used for M42.

M42> NGC7293-Nebula.dsc and NGC7293-Central Star.stc
M42>Models>ngc7293.3ds
M42>texture>medres>ngc7293.png

Then run celestia
and select
Helix
As usual, that worked fine for me.

Just a suggestion...

Within MY Celestia/Extras directory, I have simply added another directory called ADDONS, such that the resulting tree looks thus:

Celestia/Extras/Addons/

My ADDONS directory contains a separate sub-directory for EACH of my addons so that a directory called M42 can be found as follows:

Celestia/Extras/ADDONS/M42

My Models and Textures directories for the M42 addon are sub-directories of the sub-directory M42 so that the entire directory structure for M42 is contained on my machine thus:

Celestia/Extras/ADDONS/M42>SSC's, STC's and DSC's here
Celestia/Extras/ADDONS/M42/Models>3DS files here
Celestia/Extras/ADDONS/M42/Textures/Medres>PNG's and JPG's here.

I do this for ANY addon simply because it makes it VERY easy to work with the addon of my choice, and because it is EXTREMELY easy to move ALL of my addons from Celestia 1.3.0 to Celestia 1.3.1Pre11.

The Helix Nebula also works perfectly on my machine using this directory structure. Hope that helps someone. :?:

Take care, Bob
