While using the log display right after start-up, the following is displayed:
"Error in .ssc file (line 480): parent body 'TYC 5503-946-1' of 'b' not found."

I got this error too

I removed the entry from the extrasolar.ssc and no more error.

only a short term fix

That's because that star's position is not included in the Hipparcos database, but it is in Pascal's extended Tycho datbases. Presumably someone could provide an appropriate STC addon for that particular star for those who'd rather not use the 2M star database.

Hmmmm, if the "fix" requires an add-on, then should the entry be removed from the standard Celestia distribution files?

I added this to extrasolar.ssc, because I wanted a complete catalog of known extrasolar planets (modulo a few of the OGLE ones.) Since there's no side effect of including it other than a log message, why remove it?

This is a good idea Chris.

So the forum doesn't get lots of messages asking about this error. Just trying to keep "error reporting" forum messages to a minimum. :)

Or, add an entry to the User FAQ explaining it?

Or, add the star to the star db, which will eliminate the error?

Other options?

Well, I have seen this error every day for months, as I use to launch celestia from the command line, but I already knew the cause (a bit of looking for the name in the databases), and ignored it after that (recall reading some other report on this at that moment too...).
