endles restarting on Win2K

Post #1by bogo101(guest) » 22.06.2003, 01:20

hello folks,
im familiar with celestia since 1.2.x and it works fine with Win98, but i needed to update my system to Win2K and now i got the effect that celestia is constantly restating. When i start it, it looks just usual showing the logo, traveling to Io and when Io is shown for one second it starts over showing the logo and traveling again to Io and again and again ...
I can switch to fullscreen, start the demo do anything, but it travels 5 sec and repeats that move over and over again, and if i try to navigate by cursorkeys every move is extreme i.e. very fast rotating.
I tried it with 1.2.4, 1.2.5, 1.3.0 and several detonator-versions, that makes no difference. I hope someone knows how to solve this.

Win2K-SP3, XP1600,512MB, GF4-4400 w 30.82-43.45

I dunno what's causing your problem, but have you tried renaming the 'start.cel' file to something like 'start.old' or something? The idea being to stop Celestia from loading it up at the start, so maybe it won't keep looping through it?

Celestia 1.3.1pre3 works fine for me and i am runing Windows XP
Are you using the win 32 install or a manual install
or you can try checking your path names your file names might be upper case

For the install i tried both methods, the w32-install just as it is in the download, and i tried a complete copy of the celestia-dir from a second computer (Win98) on which it works fine. The path is equal on both computers. I didn't rename the start.cel but tried different targets with that.
I don't believe that paths are wrong because everything is visible (planets, textures, clouds ..), but only for a second. I can even start the demo which looks fine but it is moving just like beeing evil drunk.

How about Downloading nVidia 44.03 driver
FROM NVIDIA WEB SITE AND "NOT" !!! FROM Microsoft
MS's driver SUCKES
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
or
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_44.03

You can also try downloading a new copy of Celestia
there is a link on my web page for 1.3.1pre3

I'm sorry to say it, but all that dos'nt help. I guess it's time to take a look into the sources. (if i find some time for it)
