Whenever I start up, it moves to Io. (one of Jupiter's satellites, I believe.) Anyway, if I don't open up a menu before it reaches about 50 whatever units away, I get the following error:

The exception Floating point invalid operation.
(0xc0000090) occurred in the application at location 0x0044cab8.
Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

No matter what I push, the program is terminated. However, if I have opened up the menu, it mostly works. Sometimes, if I say 'Go To' for an object far away, say, the Centauri star system, I get a similar error.

System configuration:
AMD Duron 1.3GHz
256MB Crucial DDR PC2100 RAM
ATI Rage 128 PRO All-In-Wonder (latest drivers, don't worry)
Windows XP Professional
60GB HD
Celestia 1.3


Also.. not really anything I'm totally worried about.. but the Eclipse finder. I used it, did Compute for Solar eclipses, and found one for 5/31/03, at 1 in the morning! LOL

The Rage chipset is quite old and ATI hasn't updated its rather buggy drivers since November, 2001. They were causing my NT system at work to crash about once a week while doing simple 2D graphics: sometimes just closing a desktop window would do it.

You should seriously consider upgrading to a more modern graphics card if you can. You'll be surprised at how much faster even a Radeon 7000 card is than the Rage.

I'm not sure the chipset is the problem, though -- it works fine on the computer I use at school, which has the ATi RAGE 128 chipset my computer at home does -- and the computer is of much poorer quality.

In that case, you need to list *all* of the characteristics of both the system at school and your system at home so we can see what differences there are so someone can try to figure out what's causing the problem. In particular, the *exact* verson numbers of the graphics drivers in both cases. The drivers for XP are *not* the same as the drivers for Win98.
Also include the hardware descriptions and versions of OpenGL shown in Celestia's Help menu.

So far as I know, nobody has ever reported an FPU error before.
Are you overclocking your system or graphics card?
Is the system in a cool location and well ventilated?
Have you tried running any CPU and FPU diagnostics?

I may have found a fix for it.. here's how it went down..

Celestia was not the only program giving me the error... I also received the same style error in programs such as the XP Task Manager, eMule, and other programs.

So I formatted. I am about to redownload Celestia, and then we'll find out fo' sho'.
