This happened to me once; I was able to fix it by removing a test dsc file where I was trying to define a globular cluster using a CustomTemplate. So...make sure you don't have any globulars defined using CustomTemplates, I guess?

What operating system are you using and what version of Celestia is this ?

I experienced the same bug several times, with every version of Celestia from 1.6.1 upwards, under Windows 10 64 bit.

see this post :
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17621in 2017, we already discuss this bug. The reason has not really been found, but I no longer have the problem. At the time I had disabled the .dsc addons one by one to determine which was the cause. Not found ! Since then the problem has disappeared but I have manipulated my addons a lot. (see cel, celx which are started by default with LUT, Milky Way, Large_Scale_Universe, ...)

if you use the 1.7.0 builds from appveyor you can provide us with crash dumps from the system so we can locate the issue.

i did see some glitched DSC objects but idk what they were from because i never seen them before
so i turned off galaxies witch hid those objects
but the random crashing from clicking in random space still continued
so idk what the heck is going on
and i have tons of addons in my extras folder
so how do i click off a object without having to click in a random part of space witch causes my random crashes...?

Try removing all dsc addons from your extras folder, then adding them back one by one to see which one causes the crash.

I think it is some kind of add-on bug, but it is very hard to find out which one is the culprit.

what is the eazyest way to find the trouble making addon
i have 100+ addons

You have to add one add-on at a time and try to crash Celestia. Start with an empty extras folder.

well, you can do a binary search, put half of the all the add-ons, and find which half has the add-on that triggers it. and divide this half into halves until you find the single add-on that is problematic. it will take about around 7 x 2 = 14 times...

half of 100 addons = 2x50, try only 1 half, if Celestia bug, the bug is in the half tested otherwise do the other. Then make 2 halves with the one that bug and continue in the same way until the end
1x100 (1x) then 2x50 (2 x max) then 2x25 (2 x max) then 2x12 (2 x max) then 2x6 (2 x max) then 2x3 (2 x max) then 2x2 (2 x max) then 2x1 (2 x max) = 14 tests maximum.

Well OK, but what if there are a lot of add-ons generating the crash?

In this case, we must flush them out
As I can not remember what would have unblocked the problem with me, you should try without Lut5 to see what it gives
Added after 2 minutes 32 seconds:trappistplanets did not say which system it works with: windows, celestia, LET or LUT5 or something else

My Celestia crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I click anywhere in space. Specifically, galaxies, nebulae, or stars. Every time.

I do know Trappist's computer enviroment, since we know each other very well.
He uses a Windows 7 PC with Celestia 1.6.x, and he doesnt use Lua Tools.

see also the log file by command [~] [return] and study each error indicated
This will allow you to see the loads performed at startup.
Before starting Celestia, check the number of lines expected for the log file. This parameter is at the end of celestia.cfg (LogSize 1000 or more, I personally have 20000).
If you can't find this error, you might find one or more.
Also check your celestia.cfg file
