galaxy color

Post #1by billybob884 » 24.02.2003, 21:56

nope, not another message about adding galaxy color, just a bug i found about galaxies already having color. it only changes this blue color when you rotate around it so the milky way is behind it. this is an un-edited photo

Hehehe . . . This is one of the coolest bugs I've seen. It's also very easy to fix, which makes even cooler. Thanks billybob and Rass!

speaking of galexy colors, if you could just add a little line of code to specify a color for the "grey matter" galaxies are currently made of, i have found a site with hundreds of pics of all types of galaxies. http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archiv ... ry/galaxy/

I just fixed this blue galaxies problem . . . No more "viral nebulae" in the next prerelease, Rass :)

Gas color?

I try to keep up with the forum religiously, but maybe I
missed something - is there supposed to be galaxy or
nebula color appearing in the latest version? I don't see
any now.

Rassilon - could you answer my un-answered question - how are
you getting (blue) color in that pic you displayed.

Thanks - Vic

I'm not Ras', but I'll answer the question anyhow:

That particular picture is due to a bug in Celestia v1.3.0prerelease2.
It's showing part of Ras' nebula when it shouldn't.

Celestia v1.3's definition of "Galaxy" is unchanged from v1.2. It's still just a selection from a list of predefined grey blobs.

In order to see a colored image of a galaxy, you have to define a Nebula with an appropriate name and location and provide a properly shaped 3ds mesh and associated texture(s).

I hope this clarifies things a little.
