Sorry, Alexell, it was too early to close this thread->
https://celestia.space/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17876I followed your instructions and installed VC_redist.x64.exe, but no luck, the same error message is popping up.
Is there anyone who can run this new version of Celestia?

@john71
Yes, both run, but only when properly setup, for which not all of the files are present.
What is happening here is a glitch with clean room/system testing.
In order to run these there are two runtimes required, not one.
VS2015 & VS2012 as well.
I have put these up in my downloads if anyone wants them.
Also, the support files Alexell put up, are x86 only.
I have attached two archives here, x86 & x64 both.
x86
which is 32-bit.
x64
which is 64-bit.
Extract into a Celestia base directory, it will over write any interfering needed files.
The change between them <x86 to x64> is replacement of the x86 support files, with their x64 counterparts.
You will notice that all of the names are the same, which is kind of frustrating when troubleshooting, especially since none of them identify the exact version or bit type when looking at properties.
Other than something like depends, which I also put up in my downloads, there is no way to tell any of them apart, so mixing versions and bits is easy.
The archives are also in my downloads on my site if anything happens to the ones here.
Tested x86 & x64, in a VBox VM with only Redists installed.
Both run.

I confirm that restoring the files from Janus' ...x64.7z archive and running its new Celestia exe work fine under Win7 x64. (Of course, you do need to have installed 7-Zip, but you probably should get that archive software for its other uses, anyhow.)
There are serious usability problems in Celestia itself, but that's a topic for another thread.

Janus, how can I find this supposed site that you keep talking about, because I don't know where it is...

Sorry, I forgot to include the link.
http://celestia.simulatorlabbs.com/Look in downloads.
It is simple, and somewhat crude, I will be doing a better job of organizing later.
Still learning HTML and the rest of the mess.
Please do not tell me to use CSS/DIV, I HATE LIQUID WEBSITES!
I like simple easy to navigate grids that sit still. (table) is my friend. It does the same thing everytime, unlike css/div which is random. (/table)
Those bouncy websites and the ones that jump around while loading, I quit using, period, not worth the hassle, not worth the headache.
Not angry at anyone, but over half of my feedback lately has been about how to 'Improve' my website design.

For some very strange reason, Celestia keeps crashing on the splash screen. It loads until the "loading data files" counter reaches 100%. Once it reaches 100%, it freezes and then comes up with the Windows "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly" error. I may have missed something in the instructions, and if so, I may need a new list of what is necessary for it to run.

@CM1215
What is your CPU, OS and graphics?
You need DX9 or later installed, I installed it on my W7 machine despite having a later version, and many programs were happier.
You cannot depend on your base graphics driver doing Opengl sanely, you can thank M$ for that.
I am also not a heavy gamer, so my interests are more oriented toward repeatability and reliability than absolute speed.

Janus, my computer runs Windows 10 and uses NVidia graphics and an AMD processor, and has the latest DX version. I doubt my computer would have any problem running any newer program, but I may be missing some of the required files or installations, and that is why I asked you for a newer and more complete list of what is necessary.

The Vbox I tested in is Win7 x64 Pro with the vbox drivers, then VS2012, VS2013 & VS2015 redists installed, nothing else.
The VS2013 redists were already installed from testing my versions earlier.
Different thought.
Alexell recently changed some of the directory structure stuff, details are on github I think.
Is the directory you are testing with in the old format, or the new?

Janus, what I've been using is a virtually unmodified Celestia 1.6.1 installation, except with the new files put where they needed to be, and a huge amount of extras and addons, as well as a modified solarsys.ssc file and some other minor modifications to a few of the other main SSC files. The only big change I made was changing the "data" folder to "catalogs", and the "extras-standard" folder to "data", though I now see that this was unnecessary since I was using the old config file, which told Celestia to use the original folders.
Based on this info, I am probably using the old format.

@CM1215
Are there errors for Celestia listed in your event viewer.
I have no idea where it is in W10, but I am told it has basically the same one as 2K/XP/7, more or less anyway.
