I tried to install Celestia-1.6.1 and started installation with the configure-command,
My machine (HP 650 with Intel Celeron processor)
This command ended with the following error, which I copied from config.log:
gcc version 5.4.0 20160609 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4)
configure:4374: $? = 0
configure:4363: gcc -V >&5
gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-V'
gcc: fatal error: no input files
compilation terminated.

Would there be a way to configure Celestia such that the -V parameter to gcc is
not generated?
Thanks
Julien

from where did you get the source code ?
if from sourceforge, for1.6.1 you need to use gcc 3.4

i maintain one of the Linux builds

you might also want to use the new QT5 interface

the qmake "celestia.pro" is redhat and Debain independent and Desktop manager independent
-- but uses qt5 like KDE plasma5
