I am having problems with Celesita. I cannot get the program to go near a location. As soon as I start the program, I can stop the movement and move around, but the as soon as I start to move towards an object, Celestia crashes with this error:
Code: Select all
C:\DOCUME~1\RWR\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER35.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt
I do not know what is wrong. I had 1.24 pre 7 on before and it ran fine.
Here are my specs:
P4 2.0
51MB DDRRAM
128MB Ti4400
Win XP
Added Later:
Sorry to mention that it was a fresh installation of Celestia 1.25.. As for the .tmp file.. i haven't looked at it yet.. as of right now i am away from my computer.. but I do remember something like this happening to someone else before(possibly me).

Not sure what your problem is
but your set up seems to be great, you have everything you need to run Celestia.
try to find that text file you put up, and read what its is saying.
it could hold the clue.
it will be here somewhere
C:\Documents and Settings\RWR\Local Settings\Temp\WER35.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt
find that and post up what it says.

Also, did you fully install the new 1.2.5
did you copy anything over from you old 1.2.4 install
because 1.2.5 has some new files, it needs to run, over 1.2.4
try a clean install of 1.2.5, the add any extras and modifications you have 1 by 1

Go to celestia.cfg in the main celestia directory, make a backup copy, then open it with notepad of some such editor.
Change the following line
InitScript "start.cel"
to
# InitScript "start.cel"
save, and restart celestia.
If it runs, then select comet Halley and go to it. If it doesn't crash, select any planet or asteroid and go to that, it should then crash.
If this sequence of events happens, then it is likley this is due to a problem with the Microsoft OpenGL V1.1 driver
discussed on the "1.2.5 access violation" thread.
With celestia runing , Go to Help | Open GL info to see if you have the Microsoft Open Gl v1.1.0 driver.
The fact that 1.2.4 ran with no problems suggests that it is the OpenGL driver problem

Ian,
That was the problem. I am running Microsoft Open Gl v1.1.0 driver. What do I do to get Celestia 1.25 to run?
Should I download the newest Open Gl driver? If so where?
Chris,
Is there a fix on the way? If so what is the time table? Once again, thank you for the wonderful program!:-)

The short answer is "I don't know", Chris is working on the problem with the microsoft driver, and I'm using 1.2.4 in the meantime.
I don't know of any updated Microsoft drivers, but if you know what your video card is, there might be openGL drivers specifically for it if you can locate the vendor site. (Me, I'm stuck with microsoft OpenGL for a variety of reasons)
Cheers! Ian

I am sorry for the mistake... what happenend was, I downloaded the driver from NVidia and installed it... but MS said it had a better driver than NVidia.. so it wouldn't switch drivers... to work around that I just clicked have disk.. and selected the folder... and viola! Celestia 1.25 working is working wonderfully. I am now also running 41.09 with OpenGL 1.4
Once again, sorry for the goof
