1.2.5 Completely Crashes X11

Post #1by Roguelazer » 15.01.2003, 23:00

I have a Linux computer (specs below). 1.2.4 from RPM worked fine. 1.2.5 compiled fine once I installed Mesa-GLU-devel and GLUT-devel. However, running 1.2.5 not only crashes the program, it brings down X11 sometimes. As you can imagine, this is somewhat of a problem for me. Is this a particularly common problem?

Specs:
950Mhz AMD Athlon Processor
128 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/400
Linux Kernel 2.4.19-something
Mandrake 9.0
XFre86 4.2.1
NVIDIA drivers version 1.0-4191

Both Christophe and I run Celestia 1.2.5 in /very stable/ condition with a very similar setup of card, driver and X11-server. Except we have much more memory.

How does the crash look like. Does it appear after changing the window size?

I've had the same kind of problem on Mdk 9 with the previous version of the NVidia drivers. Celestia didn't crash all the time, but when it did it brought the system down with it. The problem disapeared when I upgraded to 4191.

What version (GTK/KDE) of celestia are you using? Or more precisely what configure parameters did you use?

Argh. Never mind. My link to libGL.so was corrupt. d'oh. Fixed it. Now, all I gotta do is install the fifty million addons left over from 1.2.4. Remind you of the old saying as to what happens when newbies start something?
