I used to have 1.2.4 and it worked perfectly. I installed 1.2.5 and as soon as I start it, it gives me a message: program close window, bla bla bla, I click ok celestia crashes (closes). Reinstalling doesnt help, but when I install 1.2.4, everything works.
Please HELP.

Same trouble in 1.2.5

I don't know about Mr. or Ms. Darkmiss's trouble, but I had the same experience. I tried four downloads of the Windows build, both the full and small versions, on two different machines:

First machine:Compaq Deskpro Pentium II, Martox Milennium G200 card, Win95

Second Machine:
Compaq Deskpro Pentium II, ATI Rage Pro 3D card, Win2K

I get a "Program has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." message from the Win2K box, and a similar message from the Win95 box. (It also says, "An error log is being created," but I can't find where it was put.)

The README doesn't say anything about needed DirectX or OpenGL drivers. What else should I check?

Go to celestia.cfg in the main celestia directory, make a backup copy, then open it with notepad of some such editor.

Change the following line

InitScript "start.cel"

to

# InitScript "start.cel"

save, and restart celestia.

If it runs, then select comet Halley and go to it. If it doesn't crash, select any planet or asteroid and go to that, it should then crash.

If this sequence of events happens, then it is likley this is due to a problem with the Microsoft OpenGL driver as being currently discussed on the "1.2.5 access violation" thread.

Cheers! Ian

Ian:

Your prescription was exactly right for me. I'll read up on the other thread.

Darkmiss: I thought it was you that had done the initial posting - I just glanced at the "poster" as I wrote my reply. Sorry.

Now: Is build 1.2.4 around anywhere?

The Bla Bla Bla stuff is: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
(The usual shit, nothing special that no one has ever seen before.)

BTW, Ian Musgrave, thanx, you were right on target, it was just like you said it would, and I took a loon on the other thread you referred (1.2.5 access violation when started on Win2k
). Thanx

Oh and markfisher, if you really need the 1.2.4 build, I got it. My AIM is Feardreagon so contact me and ill file transfer it to you. Just identify your self first. I do not like to reply to peps that are not on my buddy list. Got To Go. See Yaa, Peace.

All of the previous releases of Celestia are available on shatters.net at http://63.224.48.65/celestia/files/ There are a few addons there, too.
