When running Celestia I always end up crashing, or having my system freezing when I try to a planet.

System specs:
AMD Athlon 2800
512MB PC133 SDRAM
Radeon 8000 pro 128mb
MainBoard Mother Board built for AMD technology
ATI 80,000rpm 80gb HDD-01
Windows 2000 Pro Final Edition

Go to celestia.cfg in the main celestia directory, make a backup copy, then open it with notepad of some such editor.

Change the following line

InitScript "start.cel"

to

# InitScript "start.cel"

save, and restart celestia.

If it runs, then select comet Halley and go to it. If it doesn't crash, select any planet or asteroid and go to that, it should then crash.

If this sequence of events happens, then it is likley this is due to a problem with the Microsoft OpenGL driver V1.1 as being currently discussed on the "1.2.5 access violation" thread.
